Hi there, I’m Giovanni¹.

I work on artificial intelligence and approximate optimization, with interests in bio-inspired meta-heuristics and multi-agent systems dating back to the 1990s. As of October 2026, I am listed as an author in 3 books, 45 journal articles, 9 book chapters, and 184 contributions in conference proceedings; and as an editor in 13 volumes. The industrial applications of my research range from electronic CAD to fields as diverse as biomedical diagnostics and the cultural sector.

At Politecnico di Torino, I am employed as a Full Professor of Computer Science within the Department of Control and Computer Engineering. I also serve on the Japan Hub board and the Joint Committee on Teaching. Most of my professional activities are with the CAD group.

In the 2026/2027 academic year, I am responsible for one PhD, one MS, and one BS courses in Politecnico di Torino; one BS course in Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent (Tashkent, Uzbekistan); and one BS course in ADA University (Baku, Azerbaijan). I also contribute with occasional lectures to courses in Politecnico di Torino.
