AI is transforming the way we work, govern and connect. However, we must ensure that the pace of innovation does not outstrip our ethical responsibilities.
Over the past few months, I have been collaborating with the UNDP on the application of the Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) framework to the field of AI. As part of this work, I have designed an assessment model which forms part of the UNDP’s broader AI Human Rights Impact Assessment Toolkit, which was developed in collaboration with David Mark.
On 5 May, together with Ainura Bekkoenova (Policy Specialist at the UNDP in Europe and Central Asia) and Debashis Nag (UNDP Regional Digital Transformation Specialist), I put this toolkit into action at a hands-on workshop in Tbilisi. Participants from start-up companies, the research sector and civil society explored how to assess and mitigate human rights risks linked to AI development in Georgia using our new toolkit.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the UNDP in Europe and Central Asia to align AI governance with international human rights standards.
