Alesssandro Mantelero is Associate Professor of Private Law at the Polytechnic University of Turin (Politecnico di Torino) and Council of Europe Scientific Expert  on Artificial Intelligence and data protection (see Guidelines on AI and Data Protection 2019 and Guidelines on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data in a world of Big Data 2017). 

He has served as an expert on data regulation for several national and international organizations, including the United Nations (UN–ILO, UN-OHCHR, and UN-DP), the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights,  the European Commission, the European Research Council Executive Agency, the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy, the Italian Ministry of Justice and the Italian Communications Authority (AGCOM).

He has published three books and is author of over a hundred articles and book chapters on law & technology, with a special focus on data protection, big data, AI, IoT, Industry 4.0 and smart cities. He is Co-Editor of Computer Law & Security Review and member of the Editorial Board of European Data Protection Law Review

Professor Mantelero has held visiting appointments in several universities, including Harvard (Berkman Center for Internet & Society, 2012) and Oxford (Oxford Internet Institute, 2013 and 2014).
