Abstract:

The management of operating rooms (ORs) is usually based on perceptions and is rarely supported by a structured framework for data analysis. This work shows how the medical and administrative informational flows and data sources about ORs already existing in hospitals can be organised and integrated in order to evaluate utilisation and productivity performances. The case of a large Italian hospital is considered. Future research efforts will be focused on the evolution of the proposed approach towards a monitoring system to be included in a business intelligence framework for healthcare organisations.
