Fib Achievement Award for Young Engineers 2011 to recognise outstanding contribution to structural concrete, sponsored by fib - fédération internationale du béton, the international federation for structural concrete

The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib - fédération internationale du béton)
 has awarded the special mention of the 2011 edition of the fib Achievement Award for Young Engineers to Gian Paolo Cimellaro, former PhD student in Earthquake Engineering at the  University At Buffalo (SUNY), The State University of New York, for his PhD thesis entitled "Improving Seismic Resilience of structural sysems through integrated design of Structures", regarding the development of a rational resilience-based design procedure for structures in seismic areas.

The certificate was presented to Gian Paolo Cimellaro at the fib Symposium in Prague  (8-10 June 2011), during which he gave a short lecture. He has also been invited to submit a paper summarising his work for publication in fib's "Structural Concrete" journal.

This award, which recognizes an outstanding contribution to structural concrete in the field of research, was first given in 2001 at the fib Symposium in Berlin and it is awarded every two years.
