Giulio Malucelli (Cuneo, Italy, 6 November 1967) got his Master degree in Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 1992. In 1996 he got the PhD degree in Chemistry.

In 1995 he obtained the position of Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino at the Department of Applied Science and Technology.

In 2003 he was appointed as full time Associate Professor in Chemistry at Politecnico di Torino in the Department of Applied Science and Technology.

From April 2008 he is full time Associate Professor in Materials Science and Technology.
He is author of more than 150 papers, 7 book chapters and several Communications to National and International Congresses. He joined many European Projects and finalized research projects of Italian National research Council and Italian Ministry of Education and Research, both as component and scientific coordinator.


He obtained several research grants from Italian Companies, such as Centro Ricerche Fiat, Solvay Solexis, Pirelli, Olivetti, Ducati Motor Holding.


He is member of the Italian Society of Macromolecules (AIM, where he is at present member of the management committee) and of the Polymeric Materials Unit at Politecnico di Torino of the Italian Consortium on Materials Science and Technology (INSTM); he joined the “Nanofun-poly” Network of Excellence.

His main research activity includes the synthesis of new reactive oligomers and their photopolymerization, the modification of polymers with polar or fluorinated structures, their chemical and physical and thermo-mechanical characterization.


At present he is involved in:


*    The synthesis and characterization of nanocomposite structures, namely hybrid organic-inorganic coatings (ceramers) and polymeric nanocomposites containing phyllosilicates, alumina, graphene and graphene-like fillers.


*    The investigation on structure-property relationships in polymer and polymer (nano)composites.


*    The study of fire retardancy of plastics (both as bulk materials and thin films).


*    The study of fire retardancy of textiles, achieved by means of surface modifications based on sol-gel processes or layer-by-layer assemblies.


*    The investigation on the use of biomacromolecules as novel green flame retardant systems for plastics and textiles.



He is referee for several peer-reviewed journals like Polymer, Polymer International, Journal of Applied Polymer Science, European Polymer Journal, Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Polymer Science: part A – Polymer Chemistry, Langmuir, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, Journal of Non Crystalline Solids, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C, Chemical Communications, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Polymer Engineering & Science, Polymers for Advanced Technologies, e-Polymers, Biomacromolecules, RSC Advances, Surface & Coatings Technology, Microporous and Macroporous Materials, ....

He is member of the Editorial Board of “Macromolecules: An Indian Journal”.
