The School/Workshop is supported by GNSAGA-INdAM, by Dipartimento di Matematica-Università di Torino in the framework of the Project "Geometry on Algebraic Varieties" cofinanced by Italian MIUR and by Dipartimento di Matematica-Politecnico di Torino.

General informations on the School and Workshop.
The School and the Workshop will take place at

Dipartimento di Matematica
Politecnico di Torino Duca degli Abruzzi 24
10129 Torino - Italy

The aim of the Workshop is to discuss the state of art. Interested people are kindly requested to submit the title and an abstract of their Communication within September 9th to

geometri [nospam]

The School is mainly aimed to Phd students and young researchers in Algebraic Geometry, introducing the participants to research, beginning from a basic level with a view towards the applications and to the most recent results.
The Cremona group of the birational transformations of a projective n-dimensional space is, still now, not very much understood, at least if n is not lesser than 3. The School will focus on the description of the finite subgroups of the Cremona group of projective plane and on the classical series of examples of Cremona transformations of projective 3-dimensional space. The relations with the modern birational geometry will be discussed as well various related topics, among them: homaloidal hypersurfaces, special linear systems of plane curves, congruences of rational curves and their birational classification, rationality problems for conic bundles, etcetera.

The School will start on Monday, 19th at 13.00 and it will end on Saturday, 24th at 12.00. Workshop will start on Thursday 22nd at 14.00 and it will end on Friday 23rd at 12.00. On Thursday evening a social dinner open to the participants of the School/Workshop will be organized.
