ACADEMIC AND MANAGEMENT ROLES

As vice-rector, he has been responsible for the Course programs (from undergraduate to master level) of Politecnico di Torino. He worked for the qualification of the Course programs in the Faculties of Politecnico, for the internationalization of the curricula and for the improvement of the tutoring, counseling and cultural activities for students. He has been in charge of life-long learning, e-learning programs and special educational projects proposed by the Faculties. As a member of the University Board, he was dealing with the Strategic Plan of Politecnico di Torino, strictly related to the strategic plan of the City of Torino.

From 2007 to 2009, Coordinator of the Committee of the Italian Technical University in Pakistan (UESTP), sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Research of Pakistan and by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 2009 to 2013, Project Manager of the branch of Politecnico j Torino in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, sponsored by the Government of Uzbekistan and by General Motors.

2012: appointed by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISES) as the Coordinator of the Master in Innovation and Management of Enterprises in Tripoli (Libya).

2013: appointed by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISES) as the Coordinator of the Master in Innovation and Management of Enterprises in Tunisia (Tunisia).

     
      
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

Author of more than 190 scientific publications on subjects of Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering and Fracture Mechanics. In particular, 85 papers have been published on the most important Journals of the field. The principal topics investigated are the following:

  • seismic engineering for strategic structures and infrastructures;
  • robustness and resilience of structural systems;
  • high-performance and fibre--reinforced concrete (nuclear and geotechnical applications);
  • special structures for impact and explosions;
  • sustainability engineering: eco-performance of structural materials and recycling;
  • contact and adhesion;
  • fracture mechanics and structural integrity;
  • demolition of buildings;
  • historical buildings: assessment, vulnerability and retrofit;
  • effects of natural hazards on structures and remedies: avalanches, tornadoes etc…

2012: awarded by the American Concrete Institute of the "ACI Wason Medal for Material Research" for his research on structural concrete.

2014: awarded by Henan University of Technology (Zhengzhou, China) of honorary professorship in structural mechanics.

Since 2007, member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal "The Open Construction & Building Technology Journal" of Bentham Science Publisher. Since 2011, member of the Editorial Board of the "International Journal of Forensic Engineering" of Interscience Publisher.

TEACHING ACTIVITY
  • Full professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Politecnico di Torino. He currently teaches the Course "Structural mechanics" for the Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and the Course "Advanced Structural Mechanics" for the Master Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering;
  • He has supervised more than 70 Master theses in the Faculty of Engineering, also collaborating at the Faculty of Architecture;
  • Author of the e-learning MOOC video-course "Materials and Structural Mechanics" for the International Telematic University Uninettuno, UTIU, Rome (Italy);

10) advanced numerical modelling (e.. complex systems and chaotic nonlinear systems).

2006: appointed as Certificator of Structures and Infrastructures by the Italian Railway Company (RFI). From 2010 he is a member of the Arbitrator Register of the Italian Chamber of Arbitration for Public Works.
