Dipole and Quadrupole Moments for Edge Detection
Amelia Carolina Sparavigna
Dipole and higher
moments are physical quantities used for describing the charge distribution. In
analogy with electromagnetism, it is possible to define the dipole and quadrupole
moments for a gray-scale or color image, according to the single aspect of a
graytone or color map. In the papers

I define the
dipole and quadrupole moments for color images and show how they can be used
for edge detection and other applications.
