Mantelero is full-tenured aggregate professor of Law at the Polytechnic
University of Turin, where he teaches Private Law (U), Innovation and International Transactions law (G), and Technology & law by design (PhD).
He is Director of Privacy at the Nexa Center for
Society (Polytechnic University of Turin), part-time expert at the Nanjing University of Information
Technology, and programme coordinator of the Double Degree program
Management and IP Law (Polytechnic University of Turin – Tongji
Shanghai). He has been appointed Expert Consultant by the Council
of Europe to draft the Guidelines on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data in a world of Big Data (2017).
His writing and teaching are in the fields of law and technology, with special interests in data protection, Big Data, IoT, robotics, and e-government. During the last three years, he investigated the legal issues concerning the use of Big Data analytics, adopting an interdisciplinary approach in the analysis of the individual and collective implications of data-driven decision-making processes.
He has held visiting appointments at Harvard (Berkman Center for Internet & Society, 2012), Oxford (Oxford Internet Institute, 2013 and 2014), Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (School of Public Administration, 2013) and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, 2015; Faculty of Law and Political Science, 2016). ). He is member of the Policy Committee of the Global Network Initiative.
