Alessandro Mantelero

Alesssandro Mantelero is full-tenured aggregate professor of Law at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he teaches Private Law (U), Innovation and International Transactions law (G), and Technology & law by design (PhD).

At the Polytechnic University of Turin, he is programme coordinator of the Double Degree program in Management and IP Law (Polytechnic University of Turin – Tongji University of Shanghai). 

In 2016, he was appointed Expert Consultant by the Council of Europe to draft the Guidelines on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data in a world of Big Data (2017).  He is the coordinator of the Italian node of the Internet Privacy Engineering Network (IPEN), which is an initiative founded in 2014 by the European Data Protection Supervisor.


His publications and research interests cover the field of law & technology, with a special focus on data protection, big data, AI, IoT, robotics and smart cities. He is member of the Editorial Board of Computer Law & Security Review and Associate Editor at 
thEuropean Data Protection Law Review.

Professor Mantelero has held visiting appointments at Harvard (Berkman Center for Internet & Society, 2012), Oxford (Oxford Internet Institute, 2013 and 2014), Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (School of Public Administration, 2013 and 2016) and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute, 2015; Faculty of Law and Political Science, 2016 and 2017 ).
